Biography
Dr. Helga Nagy (b. 1974, Satu Mare, Romania) lives and works in Budakeszi, Hungary. Balancing her profession as a physician with her passion for art, she has pursued a rigorous artistic education shaped by influential figures of the contemporary Hungarian art scene.
She commenced her painting studies under graphic artist Iván Kiss and continues to refine her technique under the mentorship of established artists from the Jurányi Drawing School, including Balázs Fischer, András Mohácsi, and Sándor Ruskó. Furthermore, her artistic vision has been significantly expanded by the faculty of the Szőnyi István Free School of Fine Arts.
The guidance of visual artist Erik Mátrai, alongside painters József Csató and Bence Knyihár, has played a defining role in helping her develop her own distinct visual language.
Credo
Colors, patterns, symbols, and nature constitute the foundational layers of my art. My works often articulate a human presence devoid of actual figures—capturing feelings, experiences, and the imprints of inner narratives.
While medicine is my profession, painting is my true passion. The canvas is a space where boundaries are not dictated by rationality, goal-orientation, or perfectionism. Painting is a realm where layers lying beneath the conscious mind can rise to the surface. Here, I do not perform, I create; I do not explain, I speak in symbols.
For me, every painting is a multi-layered visual narrative where color dynamics, organic forms, abstract patterns, and symbolic structures condense myriads of feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I could write these down, but I choose to paint them instead.
My aim is to invite the viewer into this inner universe, to connect with the symbols, and to interpret the compositions through the lens of their own emotions. I believe that abstraction does not create distance, but rather draws us closer to what is truly human.
